This beautiful hilltop town 8km inland has now spawned the fastest-growing coastal resort, also known as Vera or Vera Playa - though the nearest town to Vera Playa is actually Garrucha, 5km away. Vera Playa has 7km of sands -popular with nudists and home to Spain’s first naturist hotel - leading north to Villaricos harbour and south to Garrucha. There are several good golf courses and a waterpark for children.

The old town has a wealthy feel, especially around the Plaza Mayor with its grandiose 16th century buildings. There are lots of smart restaurants and busy bars and Saturday sees one of the region’s best street markets. The villages around Vera are gaining in popularity among foreign property buyers wanting a taste of inland Spain set amid olive and lemon groves. The friendless and hospitality of the almost 8,000 inhabitants of Vera make this town especially attractive for residents and guests. For sigth-seeing the most important sights are: the church “La Encarnación”, which was built in the XVI century in a modern style, and its alter painting is in baroque style. Opening hours: afternoons. The Royal Hospital “San Agustín”, which was also built in the XVI century, the monastery “La Victoria”, the chapel “Espirítu Santo”, as well as the historic town museum and the fountain called “Cuatro Caños”. There is a wonderful look out point which had been a medieval settlement. The view from the “Plaza de la Gloria” square is wonderful.
